SHA256 hash verification is an effective way to confirm file integrity, but its reliability depends heavily on the origin of the expected hash. When both the file and its hash are obtained from the same location, such as a single GitHub release, this approach does not offer protection if that source itself has been compromised.

A more robust method for ensuring file authenticity involves using signed releases or reproducible builds. Signed releases provide cryptographic proof of the origin and integrity of files, making it significantly harder for attackers to tamper with distribution undetected. Similarly, reproducible builds allow independent parties to verify that the distributed files exactly match the published source code, adding another layer of trustworthiness.

This level of security becomes particularly crucial when dealing with plugins or software components responsible for sensitive operations, such as managing wallet keys. Enhanced verification measures help to safeguard users against potential supply chain attacks and unauthorized modifications.
