Silent Payments Sender - BIP352 plugin for Electrum

Jul 26 - Jul 26, 2026

  • The Electrum Silent Payments Sender plugin is a new addition designed to integrate BIP352 Silent Payments into the Electrum desktop application.

This plugin allows users to send to Silent Payment addresses directly from Electrum's standard Send tab, enhancing user experience by maintaining the familiar interface while introducing advanced functionalities. Compatible with Electrum version 4.6.0 and above, the plugin currently supports sending operations on mainnet, testnet, signet, and regtest networks. It works exclusively with standard single-signature deterministic software wallets and can handle various input types including P2PKH, P2WPKH-P2SH, and P2WPKH. Moreover, it accepts both raw addresses and BIP21 sp payment instructions, ensuring broad utility.

The plugin, however, has certain limitations as it does not yet support hardware, watch-only, imported-key, multisig, and 2FA wallets. Additionally, functionalities such as handling Taproot inputs, batching, payjoin, or swaps are not supported at this stage. Another notable absence is the capability for unsigned preview/export or later signing of transactions. Given that the plugin has not undergone a formal audit, users are advised to proceed with caution.

For those interested in utilizing this plugin, installation is straightforward. Users need to download the latest release from the Releases page on GitHub, ensuring to verify the SHA256 hash of the file for security purposes. Following the download, the plugin can be added via Electrum's Tools menu under Plugins, where the downloaded zip file is selected and enabled. This process integrates the plugin seamlessly into the existing Electrum infrastructure, allowing users to leverage the new functionality without significant changes to their usual workflow. Verification of the file hash after download remains a critical step emphasized for maintaining security integrity.
