This technology focuses on optimizing block propagation by minimizing the data transmitted between nodes, thereby reducing latency and bandwidth usage. The core principle of CBR involves transmitting only the data absent in the receiving node's possession, a strategy that accelerates block dissemination and mitigates network congestion. The effectiveness of CBR in enhancing scalability and efficiency within blockchain infrastructure is well-documented, offering insights into potential implementations for improved network operations. In a detailed examination of prefilling within compact block relay design, it emerged as an aspect initially integrated for its ease of addition and perceived non-harmful nature if left unused. However, subsequent testing revealed that prefilling might not contribute positively to the system's efficiency, often resulting in detrimental effects. Recent observations of block reconstruction have identified instances where blocks required additional transaction data ranging from 100 to 4000 bytes. The proposal to include around five Forward Error Correction (FEC) chunks, each 1152 bytes, aims to address these situations without necessitating an additional round trip for data retrieval. This approach, which refrains from merging chunks from different peers to avoid complexity associated with handling inputs from potentially adversarial sources, could theoretically capture most blocks needing extra data. Nevertheless, the practicality of this solution is contingent upon the distribution of missing transactions across FEC chunks, given that even a small number of missing transactions could span multiple chunks, complicating the recovery process without additional round trips.
