The importance of on-chain post-quantum cryptography (PQC) is highlighted through two primary considerations in the realm of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. Firstly, implementing on-chain PQC is crucial for securely making commitments. Without it, these commitments could only be safely aggregated if directly handled by miners within the coinbase transaction. This specific process ensures the integrity and security of transactions which, without the support of PQC, would be vulnerable to potential quantum computing threats.

Secondly, the existence of on-chain PQ-secure addresses is essential for the effective management and rescue of coins in emergency situations. Commit/reveal protocols, which are typically employed to safeguard coins during crises, necessitate a secure destination for these assets. In the absence of PQ-secure addresses, there would be no secure endpoints to which coins could be transferred or saved, thereby limiting the practical utility of these protocols. The development and integration of PQ signature schemes are imperative, serving as foundational elements that enable the broader use of cryptocurrencies in a secure manner resistant to emerging quantum challenges.
